Malcolm Williamson: a Symposium

This is a conference Simon Campion and Dr Geoffrey Álvarez are planning for 2009.

Dr Álvarez will deliver his  paper Malcolm's Dancing Numbers which investigates the metaphysical implications, symbolism and compositional techniques in the Concerto for Two Pianos and Strings. A draft of the paper may be downloaded here - it is recommended that the file is saved before opening. It is shortly to be published by Campion Press:

Simon Campion will deliver a paper focusing on a very illuminating telephone conversation Dr Malcolm Williamson had on 12 May, 1990, with Belinda Kendall-Smith.

Other papers are invited from contributors who wish to explore  the breadth and vision of the voice of a composer whose highly individual language refuses to fit comfortably within any single stylistic convention. Papers should deal with one of the following genres: songs, choral works (sacred and/or secular), operas, ballets, symphonies, and his own very personal creation: the cassations.

Papers may be submitted via e-mail for consideration to Dr Geoffrey Álvarez in word document format with music files embedded using Sibelius software or similar and from whom further details may be obtained.

Following the symposium, selected papers may be published.
